15 of the Worst, Most Dangerous Intersections in Utah

Even if you’re an experienced driver, approaching an intersection can still make you nervous – and with good reason.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an agency of the Department of Transportation that studies trends and patterns in auto accidents, roughly 40% of the estimated 5,811,000 U.S. crashes that took place in 2008 involved intersections: about 2,324,400 accidents.  So where are the most dangerous intersections in your city?  Salt Lake City intersection accident lawyer Darwin Overson counts down 15 of the worst intersections in Utah.  This is one list you definitely don’t want to see your town included on.

It doesn’t matter if your town has 1,000 residents or 100,000 – big or small, you can find dangerous intersections throughout the state of Utah.  And, thanks to recent data supplied by the Utah Department of Transportation, it’s possible to pinpoint exactly where many of them are located.  According to UDOT data, some of the most dangerous intersections in Utah include:

  1. West Jordan – Redwood Road and 9000 South
    • In 2016, FOX 13 reported that the intersection of 9000 South and Redwood Road in West Jordan saw a total of 266 crashes from January 2013 through the end of May 2016.  That’s an average of about six and a half accidents per month.  “It needs to be improved.  I won’t stay away from it,” said West Jordan resident Bryce Bowls, “but you just use extra caution.”
  2. Salt Lake City – 400 South (University Boulevard) and I-15 (Veterans Memorial Highway)
    • 294 accidents were reported at this hectic intersection near downtown Salt Lake City and its Poplar Grove neighborhood.
  3. West Valley City – 3500 South and I-215

  5. Provo – Center Street and I-15
    1. A total of 413 auto accidents occurred at this intersection during the period from January 2013 through May 2016.  On average, that’s about 10 accidents every month, or about one every three days.  “It’s a busy intersection,” said local resident Max Rodier, adding that he “wouldn’t be surprised” by such a high number.
